Basic Info
Name:Briar Rebecca Crocker
Bio
Note:This LJ is used as a tool for a fictitious character in the ficticious setting of Hogwarts Express MUSH. Everything within and below is fictional. If an actor were to play Briar it would be a young (16) Jessica Alba.
Background:
Briar was born on a reservation to a poor Native American couple that loved her enough to give her up for adoption hoping for her to have a better life. But the only way Briar was going to have a better life, was if she made it herself.
Her adoptive family treated her like she owed them something. That she should be grateful of their 'rescue' of her from poverty and squalor. She always felt uncomfortable in the high class settings the put her in. Forcing her to wear dresses and go to church and spoon feeding her etiquette lessons until she choked. She had a warrior spirit and by the time she was 6, even then she would fight with her mother and sister that she didn't like doing these things. She thought most of them were pointless and stupid. Like where she should have her napkin when she eats and that she should wear shoes instead of going barefoot like she enjoys more than anything. Eventually they just started ignoring her as she'd plead for a shred of understanding. But the black sheeps bleats fell on deaf shepherds ears. They had her sister, Erika, a literal genius to preen and tend to.
She might not ever graduate Summa cum laude like her sister eventually will or be able to be Director of Marketing for a Famous Clothes Company like her father or even be pretty and smart enough to make it as both a hobbiest model and registered nurse like her mother. But she'd never ever value a person solely on these things. She liked to have fun and play and be with other kids. The few that would actually play with her that is. She always tries to be kind, caring and a hard worker. One of her favorite stories is Cinderella. When she was very little after her father finished reading to her, it was the only time she ever really spent with her busy father, bedtime story time. He was at the door closing it and about to turn off the lights when Briar swore she saw the pictures in the book move and dance, like magic. Of course her story fell upon deaf ears as her father saying it was a trick of the light going off. Her mother didn't have time to listen as she was helping her sister prepare all of her applications for the private prep schools they were going to send her to. And her sister simply said it was stupid childish imagination and there's no such thing as magic. There were a few things like that over the years as she grew up on the outskirts of her family that just created more rifts and arguments. When she became too old for bed time stories her father and her would work in the garden and she'd swear she saw the flowers dancing. But of course it was just the wind. Or when she was seven and was helping to make Erika's 18th birthday ball gown she was blamed for the pins along the back hem giving her a good poke to the backside even though she wasn't even touching the dress at the time. No one believed that she was innocent. They demanded she was just jealous of Erika and she hated them for not being her real parents. So she was acting out to get some sort of attention.
The night of the ball dress incident her father came in to have a talking to her. It was then that she was told that his company was moving and right after Erika had her birthday extravaganza they'd be moving to England, her father's business needed him to run an office in London and they already were making plans on sending her sister to Oxford the following Semester.
Briar is quite miserable in London she's gotten better but when they first arrived she couldn't understand most of the people, and it was too cold and wet. She spent most of her time getting dragged about town by her mother who was very bored after leaving nursing to move to England. She had nothing better to do then to pick and scold Briar and it was nothing but arguments. On one shopping spree when they'd spent nearly ten hours going from shop to shop without a bit to eat did Briar notice a pub across the street. After she begged her mother for some money to go get something to eat she dashed across the street, tore into the room, flopped down on a chair and ordered a soup of the day. It wasn't until she was gulping down soup that she noticed the people sitting around were dressed oddly. She looked to the sign swinging over the bar, "Leaky Cauldron." Good soup, bad Marketing name she knew her father would say. But the people were very nice and seemed curious about her. In a nice way, she didn't feel like she was being looked at like the black sheep in the herd of pristine white cashmere's. She for once felt very comfortable. Like she belonged. She memorized where the place was and returned a few times when her mother would take her shopping. Around her 11th birthday she was taken shopping to pick out her presents. But it turned into a shopping trip for her mother because she stumbled upon a gorgeous antique chair or the next hat to add to a collection of a trillion. Briar got the chance visit the Leaky Cauldron at least, and she honestly was hoping her mother would do something like that. Spending an hour in her favorite secret place where people told such wonderful stories like her father used to read to her. The visit was better than a million presents to her. Mid way during her meal she was interrupted by something dropping over onto her bowl. It was a letter, from Hogwarts. Looking up she saw an owl sitting in the rafters just above. A pleasant lady at the next table then congratulated her and explained a great deal of what was going on, the woman's name was Kieran Blackwell, a social worker for the Ministry of Magic and she looked forward helping Briar shop and show her around. She quoted something about how she was contacted and is well aware of the 'estranged' muggle home life Briar has and that the Head Master of the School Briar will be attending has made preparations to settle the matter.
The remaining months through the last bit of the school year and the summer before she would go to Hogwarts were filled with tension, but for once, it was the good kind. The bratty bully kids tugging on her traditional braids and circling around her patting their open whooping mouths like her people did in the movies just didn't seem to bother her as much. She was going far away to a magical place. Just like Cinderella.

Hogwarts:
Since first coming to school she's sort of been spiraling about the many different circles of people. She was surprised to see that there was some other Natives at the school. In all honesty she's rather afraid to actually 'meet' them. She's very interested in her heritage's culture. But she's also ashamed she doesn't know much about it at all. While she loves to laugh and can appreciate a good joke or prank she's more of a grounding force. Even at her young age there's something about her that's very stable, responsible. If she sees a joke about to go south into insulting she'll try to veer it back into the good zone. Her favorite class is Herbology.
